The Weeknd, Eminem and Ellie Goulding tipped for Oscar nominations

A longlist of 74 songs from 2015 film soundtracks has been released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as potential nominees for Best Original Song at next year’s Oscars, including nominations for The Weeknd, Eminem, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith and Sia.

The 88th Academy Awards show will be broadcast live on TV on 28 February 2016, with the award for Best Original Song being hotly contested by some of the biggest names in pop. Several British acts are among those tipped for a nomination, with Sam Smith’s Bond theme, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’, from the top-grossing film Spectre at the head of the pack.

Other Brits on the longlist are Miles Kane for ‘Johanna’ from the film Mortdecai and Ash’s Tim Wheeler for ‘Feels Like Summer’ from the Shaun the Sheep Movie.

The big international artists on the Academy’s longlist are Eminem for the track ‘Phenomenal’ from the Southpaw soundtrack, Lady Gaga for ‘Til it Happens to You’ from The Hunting Ground and N.E.R.D.’s ‘Squeeze Me’ from The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

Three songs from the Fifty Shades of Grey OST also made the list, including The Weeknd’s ‘Earned It’, Sia’s ‘Salted Wounds’ and Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’.
