Rouce says that only one text message from Eminem stays between the BME hiatus and their new album.

Detroit rappers Nasaan and Royce 5’9, recently joined Angela Yee on her show “Way Up With Angela Yee” for a wide-ranging conversation. They talked about Nasaan’s upcoming album, sobriety, the rappers’ thoughts on fellow rappers, the state of the industry, and their biggest mistakes. Among all those topics, one was of particular interest.

During the interview, Royce 5’9 provided updates on his collaborative projects. He confirmed work on the third instalment of PRhyme, his joint project with DJ Premier. Royce revealed:

Me and Preemo are working. It’s a joint thing we do together called PRhyme, so we’re working on the third instalment right now.

He also hinted at potential activity with Eminem, stating:

As far as me and Marshall, all he has to do is to send me a text message and I’m to the studio whenever he’s ready. We pretty much do that on his time. And he’s always on some type of time. He’s always on some sort of a mission. I don’t know what he’s doing right now, but I know he’s recording a lot of stuff.

Everybody will likely be eager to hear more about their potential collaboration in the near future, but Royce knows how to be careful with his words. Meanwhile, we can expect Nasaan’s upcoming album, “Error 404,” to drop on April 25th, 2024. Guests featured on the project include BabyTron, Royce 5’9 himself, and Icewear Vezzo.

Yelawolf has released a brand new music video to keep the momentum going for his upcoming double album, “War Story”.

“Make You Love Me” follows the previously released single, “Everything”, giving fans another taste of what’s to come from the Alabama rapper.

The video, directed by Patrick Tohill, offers a cinematic experience in the prohibition-era esthetics with a sudden plot twist, while sonically Yelawolf demonstrates both his rapping skills and singing abilities.

“Make You Love Me” is produced by Malay, who helms the “Michael Wayne” half of the “War Story” project. This softer side contrasts with the “Trunk Muzik 4ever” portion produced by Yelawolf’s longtime collaborator WLPWR.

War Story” is expected to drop in May 2024.

Detroit rapper Danny Brown recently appeared on the Drink Champs podcast, where he discussed a range of topics with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN.

Among the subjects covered were Eminem’s past beefs, including the clashes with Benzino and Machine Gun Kelly. When asked who he sided with in the Eminem vs. Benzino feud, Brown expressed loyalty to his hometown, stating:

I mean, I’m obviously going to ride with my city. I’m an Eminem guy.

But, of course, this is not just about siding with a hometown MC. Danny Brown recognises Eminem’s impact on the rap landscape, specifically regarding white rappers. Brown acknowledged Eminem’s influence, answering a question about who won Eminem vs MGK beef:

C’mon man. Y’all tryna be funny now. We would not get MGK if it was not for Em. No white boys coming around, you know.

N.O.R.E. chimed in, echoing Brown’s sentiment about Eminem’s talent. He expressed his frustration with those who downplay Eminem’s achievements based on race, stating:

My favourite white rapper of all time is Eminem. I can’t deny that at all. Zino is my brother, but the thing about it is, I don’t like Eminem because he’s white, I like Eminem because I like Eminem. That’s it. I know what he was trying to bait me into doing, but no, it’s not I like him because he’s white, I like him because I like syllables. I like how he puts motherfucking words together. If you go to Spotify, Eminem is still No.1 artist listened to. You know why I wanted to defend Eminem? It’s not only because of Benzino. It’s because I hate when people say, “Yeah, he’s nice for a white guy”. He’s nice because he’s nice!

N.O.R.E. heard these backhanded compliments, “He’s good for a Puertorican”, and knows what it costs to battle ignorance.

Brown further emphasised Eminem’s early dominance, saying:

I mean, that’s rappers’ rapper type shit. You understand how difficult it is to do what he do when you do this shit. So, motherfuckers are always trying to talk shit. Like, “We don’t hear Eminem in the club”. You still go to the club?! You hear Eminem at football games and stadiums and shit like that. At the end of the day, no one can take what he’s done for white boy rappers. It wouldn’t be y’all niggas. Now it’s so many Eminem clones in this shit. “Nice for a white guy”? No, he was better than niggas when he first came out. That’s the way he got cracking.

In a recent appearance on “Art Official Intelligence Radio” with De La Soul, Tyler, the Creator discussed the inspirations behind his former group, Odd Future.

Highlighting the impact of prominent rap crews in the early 2000s, Tyler named Eminem’s Shady Records, Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records, and Nas’ focus on Queensbridge artists as key influences:

I grew up in the year 2000, I was eight turning nine, So I’m looking at like eight, turning nine. So let’s say it’s 2002, 10 turning 11. You’ve got Jay with the whole Roc-A-Fella, you’ve got Eminem’s Shady, Aftermath, you have all these different crews that felt like family. Nas was bringing Queensbridge group like Jungle and them out. Niggas had this thing. So in my formative years, I’m just watching these crews.

He elaborated on how the concept of a tight-knit group resonated with him and Odd Future, particularly given their outsider status. He explained:

I’m from Los Angeles, so gang culture is already a prevalent thing, but I feel like just the main layer of that is a family-knitted thing like, no, these are my boys, you come with me. When I was making Odd Future, outside of the magazine thing, it just actually felt like family for a bunch of outcasts. Everyone in Odd Future was the black sheep of their family. So us coming together and just like, nah, fuck y’all.

Tyler went on to credit this sense of camaraderie as a driving force behind Odd Future’s creative direction. He acknowledged missing the era of crews like Native Tongues but expressed how witnessing the unity within Roc-A-Fella shaped his own vision. He said:

Seeing people get Roc-A-Fella chains was like, oh, you’re part of the family. So I think just subconsciously emulating the sentiment that they held was easy.

The BPI updated the status of a non-single from “Recovery” and an iconic number that introduced “The Marshall Mathers LP” to the public.

“The Real Slim Shady” was released as the MMLP lead single in April 2000 to resounding success. No .4 on the Billboard chart was the highest charting position Eminem had ever got by that time. However, the single got its first certification in the USA only in 2018. The label just didn’t apply to it earlier. So, in 2018, the RIAA awarded “The Real Slim Shady” with Silver, Gold and 4 Platinum certificates all in one day. In 2020, the number of Platinum plaques went up to seven.

Things were following a more natural curve in the UK, where “The Real Slim Shady” debuted at No.1 on the national chart. It got its Silver in 2004 and has been steadily adding accolades ever since. The British Phonographic Society awarded “The Real Slim Shady” with 4x Platinum status this Friday.

Meanwhile, “Won’t Back Down” feat. P!nk is now listed as Silver in the UK, signifying 200,000 units sold in the UK.

In his recent interview, Dr. Dre doubled down on Eminem being the best rapper ever.

Of course, haters gonna hate, but Dre shut it down – skin colour doesn’t mean skill. Talking with James Corden on SiriusXM’s The Life of Mine show, Dre plainly states what he thinks about Marshall’s place in the culture:

I think he’s the best emcee ever. Point blank, period. Of course, there are going to be arguments about that because he’s a white guy. I don’t think anyone that’s rapping can touch Eminem on that microphone.

And Dre knew it from their first studio session, which also happened the day they first met. The iconic creative duo was born, and Slim Shady’s signature “My Name Is” came to life:

I met Eminem at Jimmy Iovine’s office. We slapped hands, went to the studio and started recording, and I’m not sure if anybody knows this, but I think the first four albums was just me and him and his writing and his delivery and his imagination is off the charts, and I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. I was playing with the MPC and I hit play on it, and he just went, “Hi, my name is”. It happened that fast. No bullshit, and then we went from there, and that was the beginning of this relationship.

However, the West Coast legend doesn’t live only in memories nowadays. Dre confirms that he is still working on a project with Snoop Dogg, which has been a hot topic of conversation for some time now.

These two have created such G-Funk anthems as “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” and “Still D.R.E.” With their new project, “Missionary,” they’re ready to prove that after all these years, the magic’s still there.

Dre only produced one Snoop album back in the day (the iconic “Doggystyle”), so anticipation is just as high as a bar they set back then. Snoop’s soundin’ sharper than ever, and Dre says we ain’t ready for the heat they’re about to bring:

I know, as odd as it sounds, I’ve only produced one album on Snoop, which was in 1993, Doggystyle”. I mean, we’ve done some songs, and we’ve played around in between, of course, but that is the one and only album I’ve produced on Snoop, “Doggystyle”, so we decided to call this one Missionary. Snoop is really sounding fantastic, and people are gonna be really shocked and amazed at how we’ve been able to come back together after all these years and do something. It’s really interesting.

A new music documentary, “How Music Got Free”, is set to explore the controversial topic of music piracy, and it seems Slim Shady himself is involved.

The documentary will reportedly feature appearances from a range of figures in the music industry, including Eminem, 50 Cent, and industry veteran Paul Rosenberg. And Method Man himself narrates the film. The story centres on Dell Glover, a former CD factory worker who, alongside a group of teenage hackers, is credited with playing a significant role in the rise of music piracy.
“How Music Got Free” is being distributed by Paramount+.

While details about Eminem’s specific involvement are scarce, it’s interesting to note his inclusion given his own past battles with unauthorized leaks of his music.

Early reviews suggest the documentary takes a balanced approach to piracy, exploring its impact on both artists and consumers. Directors Alexandria Stapleton and Stephen Witt, whose book of the same title has inspired the project, speaking at SXSW, mentioned the film will delve into the “golden age” of the music industry, the rise of Napster and its impact on record labels, and the subsequent evolution of streaming platforms.

Whether Eminem offers a critical perspective or a more nuanced take on piracy remains to be seen. With a release date yet to be announced, fans will have to wait for further details about the film and the extent of Eminem’s participation. However, given his own experiences with leaks and the evolution of his music career alongside the changing music industry landscape, his involvement undoubtedly adds another layer of intrigue to this upcoming documentary.
