Hear Eminem Like You've Never Heard Him Before - Rapping Over Street Fighter Beats

Otaku Gang put together a Marshall vs. Capcom mashup mixtape.

Wo doesn’t love a good mashup?

I’ve always had a place in my heart for this Jay Z “Song Cry” and 3 Doors Down “Here Without You” mashup, whose strangeness is only matched by its excellence. Hov rapping over that “a hundred” loop? Yes, please.

That was put together by a DJ, but Hov, of course, sanctioned and participated in his own mashup, with his 2004 Linkin Park collaboration, Collision Course. More often than not, though, the best unlikely musical marriages of this sort are created by enterprising producers or DJs.

That’s what we’ve got with Marshall vs. Capcom, a new mixtape from collective Otaku Gang that places Eminem’s raps over beats from the Street Fighter video game series. It’s not just the title (a play on Marvel vs. Capcom) that’s clever: The same people that brought you December’s Notorious B.I.G. and “Star Wars” mashup have found a way to give some of Em’s classics a new spin and mood. It’s equal parts peculiar and compelling to hear lyrics that I’ve long associated with one beat over a completely different one.
