Eminem’s ‘Shady Wars’ Game Is Frustratingly Addicting

It can be a ‘Monster’ to get through.

Eminem released “Shady Wars” this month, a free mobile video game that focuses on his lyrics. It’s both frustrating and fun to play and I know that because I gave it a test-run.

I didn’t know what to expect, exactly, but I thought it’d be fun to try even though I’m not a huge gamer (there’s my disclaimer). This is how it went:

The Instructions

The instructions seemed pretty simple: Use your index finger to put Shady under words as they fall from the sky and try not to die.

The Game

The first song you get is “The Monster.” That’s me under “Newsweek.” I was really happy to get that because I wasn’t very good in the beginning. This was an improvement.

The Coins

After a while, I got sick of the “Game Over” notices and was finally able to get some coins. This was like winning the lottery in the “Shady Wars” universe, only instead of real money, I got coins with middle fingers on them.

The Win

As you can see, I eventually started kickin’ ass so I was very proud of those 10 coins. Don’t judge me.

The Drones

Damn these dreaded drones. In “Monster’s” second round, I had some fun shooting drones down. I had way less fun seeing “Game Over” a bunch. Do the words speed up in this round or was it just me? This. Was. Frustrating.

The Win Pt. 2

Eventually, after several failed attempts, I was able to conquer this round too. Bam! Luckily, I didn’t throw my phone out a window. This was where I stopped (for the time being) to write this article.

The Weapons

If you have a lot of coins, you can splurge on these items. As you know by now, I did not attain many coins so I haven’t splurged (yet).

The Other Characters

You start out with Slim Shady who is a cool little dude in a Jason mask (kinda like Shady IRL) but you can also be Eminem, Paul Rosenberg, Yelawolf, Royce Da 5’9″ and the Slaughterhouse mascot. You cannot, however, be Marshall Mathers, for some reason.

How It Was Fun: Listening to Eminem’s music will boost your athletic performance and maybe even your gaming. As I was playing, I noticed some of Em’s rhymes motivated me to push through all the “Game Over” notices. It also became a bit addicting after just a couple rounds so this won’t be the last time I play.

How It Was Frustrating: Here’s my list, ranked by most frustrating to least: “Game Over” notices; Getting shot at by drones; Words moving too fast; Turning into dust when you die; Needing more coins.

Alright, I gotta get back to try to win some more rounds.
