A documentary filmmaker from Detroit, who claims to go by the name “Horse” or “El Caballo,” appears to have a piece of hip hop history that’s connected with Eminem’s “Best Rap Album” win at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

The door from Eminem’s childhood home at 19946 Dresden appears to be in the filmmaker’s possession, based on photos sent to MLive.com over the weekend. It’s the same home that’s featured on the cover of Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 album covers.

Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 won a Grammy Award on Sunday in Los Angeles for Best Rap Album. He also won a Grammy in 2000 for The Marshall Mathers LP, and now has a whopping 15 Grammys to his name.

Photos sent to MLive on Saturday show a man in front a spray painted piece of plywood that served as the Dresden home’s front door before the entire structure was torn down by the State of Michigan on Nov. 20, 2013.

The man is shown in photos sent to MLive standing in front of the door with what appears to be Saturday’s USA Today newspaper in his hand. That’s seems to be part of his effort to prove the photos are authentic.

“The footage of how he discovered the doors whereabouts are in the
directors cut of his soon to be release second installment titled film “TWO Ambitious!,” reads and e-mail sent to MLive. “HIS INDEPENDENT FILMS FEATURE AND STARS THE BIGGEST MUSIC STARS IN THE WORLD OF MUSIC!!!

Attempts to reach the filmmaker to get his real name and plans for his piece of Eminem history were unsuccessful. It’s unclear when his film will be released.

Eminem fans: What would you do if you had the door to Eminem’s former childhood home that was featured on his Grammy Award winning albums?

One hardcore Eminem fan from Tennessee wanted in 2013 to turn the entire 767-square-foot bungalow into a Slim Shady museum — before it was torn down.

An MLive.com poll posted Nov. 5, 2013 showed that a majority of readers would visit an Eminem museum if it opened at the home’s location on Detroit’s east side.

The lot where Eminem’s home was located remains vacant. The last I counted, there were at least 70 vacant homes on Dresden.

Records indicate the 19946 Dresden property changed hands several times — from private owners to banks until Oct. 5, 2012, when the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office sold it to the Michigan Land Bank.

The Land Bank then transferred the deed May 9, 2014 to the Detroit Land Bank.

The property doesn’t currently appear available for public purchase on the Detroit Land Bank’s website or MotorCityMapping.org, a site used by the city’s Land Bank to market available properties.

There are, however, vacant sidelots available for purchase via the Land Bank.
