Eminem 50 Cent My Life

Before he even put out his first platinum record, 50 Cent’s life was changed forever. Luckily for the Queens rap juggernaut, his infamous 2000 shooting is only a small part of the story, and on his new single «My Life,» Fif brings along Eminem and Maroon 5 rocker Adam Levine to detail his travels.

The G-Unit head honcho and Levine are all set to perform the track on Monday’s (November 26) episode of «The Voice,» but DJ E-Man from Power 106’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood in Los Angeles got the go-ahead to spin the long-awaited single on Monday morning.

The Symbolyc One-produced track starts with a rolling guitar lick and Levine’s wailing hook, before revealing a sampling of the ever-so-classic drum break from Melvin Bliss’ 1973 record «Synthetic Substitution,» which has been used on Ultramagnetic MCs’ 1986 favorite «Ego Trippin’» and more recently on G.O.O.D. Music’s summer banger «New God Flow.»

«My life, my life makes me wanna run away, but there’s no place to go,» the Maroon 5 frontman sings before Fif starts his chapter detailing his rise to rap stardom.

” ’03 I went from filthy, to filthy rich,” 50 begins by referencing his larger-than-life debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

From there, Curtis furthers the story, shedding light on the artists he’s assisted and (of course) naming names and sending shots at former G-Unit artists. «I tried to help them kids get on, they turned around and spit/ Right in my face, so Game and Buck, both can suck a di—/ Now when you hear ’em it may sound like it’s some other sh—/ ’Cause I’m not writing anymore they’re not makin’ hits,» he rhymes.

Eminem chimes in with a manic second verse where his voice jumps up and down going from eerily calm to downright crazy. Em’s return to the spotlight may have him feeling on pins and needles again, as he lost the privacy he has craved throughout much of his rollercoaster career. «Feels like I’m goin’ psycho again and I might just blow my lid/ And I almost wish that I never made Recovery, kid/ ’Cause I’m running circles with my life,» he admits in his lyrics before Adam returns with the hook.

The all-star single is the first off of 50’s upcoming fifth solo LP Street King Immortal. Already the trio has shot a dramatic video and dropped a trailer which shows each in the dark trying to elude an in-pursuit helicopter and its peering spotlight.
